This Greek Pottery Vase represents a "psykter vase" is typically a mushroom shaped vessel although whether it was applied to this shape in the sixth and fifth century is unknown. It's function is to cool down wine and would normally be placed in kraters filled with water to stay cold.
I drew the third scene showing Belle replacing her father in the Beast's castle and I also drew the last scene of the two falling in love. Sgraffito: sgraffito means to scratch away the surface, typically the paint on ceramics. I could not find any definition on "scraffito and registers." Rosa de Jong is an Art Maker and Graphic Designer from Amsterdam. She creates miniature landscapes and houses of all sorts using her hands and minimal tools, she uses materials such as, cardboard, foam, tenerife sand, modeling foliage, water color, icelandic moss, string etc. Her designs mostly consist of houses coming out of stones or wood, with green design along the whole figure, although, she also creates skyscrapers, camp sites, green houses, tree houses and much more.
Her art reminds me a lot of some Japanese mountain houses which I find very beautiful. I was drawn to her art because of the minimalistic colors and the style of her creations, it just reminds me of nature and how beautiful it can really be. I'm inspired by her work as I would love to try and recreate it although it takes and extreme amount of patience and skill. I really appriciate how much time and effort she puts into every creation. Her process is documented via her instagram @byrosa , where she posts her favorite creations. Which stamp do you think would work the best and why?
I think the square stamp would work the best because it has the most dimension, therefore creating the most noticeable pattern. Which one do you think you might have difficulties with and why? I think the most difficult to handle will be the cylinder with the indented dots and carved lines as I think the lines won't show up very well. The carvings weren't very precise so I don't think it'll imprint well. Which style was the most difficult to make and why?Which style was the easiest to make and why? The easiest style to make was the sphere because it didn't crack easily while the hardest to make was the mushroom like stamp because it was hard to make the edges round without squishing or misshaping it. 1. What did you find worked well and what stamp did not? Why do you think that is?
I found that stamps with circle indents worked well as all of them were indented deep enough. The smaller and more precise designs didn't work as well because not all of them were indented enough. 2. Do you think that the practice will influence what you will make for your own stamps? Yes, I think that this gave me more inspiration as to what designs I'd like on my stamps. |
